There was this bus see. And all the people on the bus had started to realize that it wasn't headed for a cliff. It was headed to Hell. The Promised Land was north, and the bus always seemed to end up further south. And it was getting really hot.
Then a new bus driver came along. He promised to get us to the Promised Land. "We must change directions", he said. "And I will lead us there."
Well, the people on the bus were very excited. We believe in you dear driver, to get us to the Promised Land. And they began their journey.
But a few people on the bus grew very concerned. Unlike most of the other passengers, they weren't believers. They preferred to read the map. And it didn't take them long to realize that the road the new driver had chosen, while certainly different than the old road, still, eventually, led to Hell. Like a detour, it was just a longer way around.
When they tried to point this out to the believers, they were flayed and flogged. "Give him time", they said. "He just took over the wheel."
But the map people were insistent. "It doesn't matter how much time we give him, he's going the wrong way. Look, it's on the map. You can't get to the Promised Land by going down this road. It look like it's going north now, but just up the road it takes a sharp turn to the south, towards hell."
But there was no reaching the believers. Most wouldn't even look at the map. And the few who did just wrote it off. "Eh, there's a road north somewhere up there. We just can't see it yet. And besides, our new driver is really smart."
And so the bus rolled on...
